Update on our Path Out of Poverty Initiative

The Building Downtown

We are so excited to announce that we closed on our Downtown Campus building on May 3rd! We will host an open house on May 21st. This will be a time to explore the church and hear Pastor Gabe’s heart and vision for this future campus. If you want to learn more about the Downtown Campus and open house, click the button below:

Access Point

Access Point is designed to serve those already serving those in need.  This includes providing practical support to educators that are on the front lines of serving kids in need.  Learn more and get involved here: Flexible Opportunities to Serve.

The HUB

The HUB is to be the “community services help-desk” connecting those in need to existing services in our initial areas of focus centered in housing, employment, skill development, transportation and food/clothing.

Partnership and relationship development continues with local organizations in order to select those that will best serve the needs of individuals and families.

The team has developed an organizational structure for individuals and families to access the Hub either on-line or as an in person connection. Process mapping session to create overview of Hub operations is being planned.

A technology platform has been identified that can be used to ensure efficient and effective communication with the non-profits as well as tracking progress for the services being provided.

The team is finalizing descriptions for volunteer roles within The Hub. Outreach is beginning to those who have expressed interest in the Hub

As part of the relationship building with service organizations in Charlottesville, a meeting room at our Pantops campus was provided for system training that the Coalition for the Homeless Charlottesville will use to tie all supporting organizations together to gather critical data.

Pathway Mentorship

In-school mentorship through our Pathway Mentorship program fosters one-on-one gospel-centered relationships, offering students a vision for a future beyond poverty and nurturing a character grounded in faith.

Verification of the schools in which we hope to launch the program is pending. Once we have approval with the schools, recruitment of mentor volunteers will begin. If you have already provided your information through the link below, thank you. For those who have an interest in mentoring students at the elementary level, please use the link below to sign up.

There is an opening for a volunteer role to lead the Pathway Mentorship program:

Volunteer Lead Pathways Mentorship:

The Point Church is in search of a Volunteer Lead for Pathway Mentorship. In this vital position, you'll be at the helm of recruiting, coordinating, and scheduling volunteers within our engaged schools, ensuring our mentorships thrive. Your mission will be to train and support a team of volunteers who will serve as mentors, embodying our church's vision and commitment to one-on-one gospel-centered mentorships. Working closely with the Reach Director, you will play a pivotal role in evaluating our programs' effectiveness and contributing to the growth and spiritual foundation of school-age children and youth in our community. If you love how mentorships can shape a child and have the gift of leadership, this role will be perfect for you. Contact David Banks if you are interested: david.banks@thepointva.com

The Academy

The Academy is an entrepreneurial and business training program designed to empower our underserved neighbors with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed as entrepreneurs, fostering long-term economic independence and breaking the cycle of poverty through a foundation of biblical truths.

The team continues to reach out to community resources to build awareness for the program, which will start taking applications in July for an August 2024 launch.

A new brochure has been created to market the program as well as a new link to our website specifically pointing to The Academy which describes the program, the opportunity to join a waitlist for the upcoming launch in August and to ask further questions about the program.

We are grateful to those who have already expressed an interest and desire to serve within these various programs. Next month, we will be sharing more opportunities where you can get involved. In the meantime, to stay up-to-date, please sign up here.
