Day 23 - SL 40 Days

May 15, 2026

Day 23:

Acts 17:11: “Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.”

Devotion:

The Bereans did not just take Paul’s word for it. They went and checked Scripture for themselves. That is a great model for how to study the Bible. One of the best tools you have is the Bible itself. When you have a question about a passage, another passage often answers it. The cross-references in your Bible, those small letters or footnotes at the bottom of the page, connect you to related verses throughout the whole Bible. The more you follow those threads, the more you see how the whole Bible tells one connected story about a God who loves His people and never gives up on them.

Questions:

  1. Have you ever used the cross-references in your Bible? What did you find?
  2. Why is it important to check what the Bible actually says instead of just going with what someone tells you?
  3. What does it mean to you that the whole Bible tells one connected story?
