Day 18 - Jehovah Tsuri

January 21, 2026

James Burton

Name of God: Jehovah Tsuri

THE LORD IS MY ROCK

Psalm 18:2: The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Devotional

Think of a rock. Not a pebble or a stone but a massive monolith. When hiking in the mountains of Virginia, you may come across a boulder so large it’s hard to imagine its weight or how long it’s been there. It hasn’t moved. It hasn’t shifted. And if you were surrounded by a wall of rock, nothing could break through. You would be completely secure with nothing to fear.

This is the picture behind the name Jehovah-tsuri, The LORD Is My Rock. It speaks to the immensity and reliability of God. Where do we run to in times of need? When the world seems to be after us and we can’t find relief in anything around us. Where do we go for shelter? Where do we find refuge? When pressure comes and the world feels unstable, the question isn’t whether God is strong enough, but where we choose to run.

I have to choose daily where I will run when the challenges of life hit. Prayer is how we run to the Rock. It is how we seek shelter. Nothing we bring to God is too heavy or too small for Him to carry. As you pray today, come with confidence. Your prayers are safe with Him. Jehovah-tsuri hears you, holds you, and remains your unshakable refuge.

Devotional Prayer Questions

1. Knowing that you are safe, what is the deep prayer request that you need to lay at the Lord’s feet today?

2. Will you hand your needs, that may feel too little or too big, to the Lord My Rock right now?

The Lord's Prayer

Use the Lord's Prayer to guide your prayer time.

“Father”
Jehovah-tsuri, You are our Rock. Without you, we would be swept away by the waves of the world.

“Hallowed be Your Name”
Your name is the name above all names; You stand exalted above all else.

“Your Kingdom come / Your will be done”
We ask for confidence to trust that you will remain our unshakable refuge.

“Give us this day our daily bread”
Lord, nothing is too heavy or small for you to handle. Allow our prayer life to be a continual conversation with you today and everyday.

“Forgive us our sins…”
Forgive us when we seek refuge in worldly things. Only you provide the safety and comfort we need.

“Lead us not into temptation”
Help us to run to you when life’s challenges become too much. Give us the strength to resist the attacks of the Enemy.

Prayer Requests

After praying through the Lord's Prayer, please pray openly for those around you, our Church, those that are lost and then if you are joining us in person, please pray over a few prayer requests on the prayer cards located on the front of the stage and return them in the basket at the exit.

With Your Family

Prayer is so important for us to develop especially with our family. Throughout the 21 Days of Prayer we want to provide simple prayer prompts that you and your children can pray through that can break down the name of God into an easily understood manner and how we can pray through that. In addition to the prayer below, prompt your children to pray for family, friends, teachers, others in their life and remember to always lead the prayer with gratitude.

Thank God that He is Jehovah Tsuri, which means The LORD My Rock.

A rock is strong, solid, and doesn't move, just like God, who is steady and dependable no matter what.

Because God is our rock, we can stand on Him and trust Him when everything else feels shaky or uncertain.

Thank God today for being so strong and reliable that we can always count on Him.

Communion

If you are joining us in person, please pick up the communion elements provided and take it to close out your prayer time.

Scripture:

Read the following passage before participating in communion:

Mark 14:22-25: And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. And he said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”

Prayer:

Take a moment and ask God to examine your heart and reveal any sin that is hindering your relationship with Him. Confess that sin to the Lord. Then, as you read the passage, take a moment to praise and thank God for His body and His blood, and eat the bread and drink the cup.
