Day 20 - Jehovah Ori

January 23, 2026

Christopher Eagle

Name of God: Jehovah Ori

THE LORD IS MY LIGHT

Psalm 27:1: The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Devotional

David is writing here in the Psalms where Jehovah Ori, "The LORD is my Light," is revealed. This verse shows us that God himself brings us light, salvation, and serves as our stronghold—which means we can have complete confidence in the Lord. David's confidence dispels any fears because God is his light and his salvation. Light signifies understanding, guidance, and life. A stronghold signifies defense and protection. When the Lord is our light, there is no room for fear—no fear of tomorrow, what's coming next, or the struggles of today.

When I have experienced God through this truth—that the Lord is my Light—it has shifted my perspective and deepened my walk with Him. It has become a constant reminder that I should have no fear of what I face here on this earth because God is my light. He is our salvation and our stronghold, which means that darkness, danger, and every enemy we face will always be defeated. When I face that impossible task, enter a new season of life, walk through uncertainty, or feel overwhelmed by spiritual warfare with no way out, the Lord who is my Light is always present. He gives me the understanding and ability to walk through every struggle and season—the joyful ones and the impossibly difficult ones that feel like they'll never end. He has shown me that He will always be the light, giving me joy and confidence that dispels all fear.

Devotional Prayer Questions

1. What areas of your life are currently shrouded in darkness or fear, and how can you invite God as your Light to bring understanding, hope, and confidence into those places?

2. Where do you need to experience God as your stronghold today—what battle, burden, or uncertainty can you surrender to Him, trusting that His light has already overcome the darkness you face?

The Lord's Prayer

Use The Lord's Prayer to guide your prayer time.

“Father”
Jehovah Ori,
You are our light. You illuminate our path, steady our steps, and remind us that we never walk in darkness when You go before us.

“Hallowed be Your Name”
Because You are our light, You give us understanding, guide our steps, and breathe life into our souls.

“Your Kingdom come / Your will be done”
Your will brings wisdom, direction, and life. Please give us wisdom to make the choices You would make if we knew all that You know.

“Give us this day our daily bread”
Today, I surrender myself to You. You have never failed me, and You are faithful to fulfill every promise You have made.

“Forgive us our sins…”
Wash us clean, make us new, and draw us back into the right relationship with You in Your light.

“Lead us not into temptation”
Lead us not into temptation, Jehovah Ori—our Light. Expose what is not of you.

Prayer Requests

After praying through the Lord's Prayer, please pray openly for those around you, our Church, those that are lost and then if you are joining us in person, please pray over a few prayer requests on the prayer cards located on the front of the stage and return them in the basket at the exit.

With Your Family

Prayer is so important for us to develop especially with our family. Throughout the 21 Days of Prayer we want to provide simple prayer prompts that you and your children can pray through that can break down the name of God into an easily understood manner and how we can pray through that. In addition to the prayer below, prompt your children to pray for family, friends, teachers, others in their life and remember to always lead the prayer with gratitude.

Thank God that He is Jehovah Ori, which means The LORD My Light.

When it's dark, a light shows us where to go and helps us see clearly, and Jesus is the light that shows people the way to God.

Because God is our light, we want others to see His light too.

Pray today for someone you know who doesn't know God yet, and ask God to help them see His light and love.

Pray for God to show you a way to be a light to a friend today.

Communion

If you are joining us in person, please pick up the communion elements provided and take it to close out your prayer time.

Scripture:

Read the following passage before participating in communion:

Mark 14:22-25: And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. And he said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”

Prayer:

Take a moment and ask God to examine your heart and reveal any sin that is hindering your relationship with Him. Confess that sin to the Lord. Then, as you read the passage, take a moment to praise and thank God for His body and His blood, and eat the bread and drink the cup.
